| dbhoutx's Full Review: Singapore Airlines |
Singapore Airlines is among the top airlines in this world. They can boast among the safest flying records of all air carriers. They can also boast being one of the few airlines without a problem with air rage from their passengers. I guess their well trained service oriented staff make a huge difference in how people perceive their experience on Singapore Airlines.
My primary experience aboard Singapore Airlines was when I flew to Bali and back via Singapore from LAX early in 1999. This was all part of a package offered by their subsidiary travel package company. The entire trip was incredible, but the airline service is among the best I have ever experienced on any airline, especially in coach.
The service offered all passengers was by far the best of all other airlines flying into the Pacific Rim. The meals were great. The flight crew was there to take care of all my needs. I was even able to secure exit row seating before the flight, which provided additional leg room and a spot near the galley, for those midnight snacks and drinks.
The service is provided by some of the most beautiful flight attendants flying. I believe Thai airlines comes close, but none others managed the overall attractiveness of the female flight crew. They are also very kind and willing to make sure you have a pleasant and enjoyable trip. They met each request with a smile and a can do attitude. (Do we have that in American anymore?) Each request was aptly handled and I was kept very happy.
Since I was in the exit row, I did not have a screen in the seat in front of me, I had to pull out a screen from within the seat. The flight attendant made sure I knew how to do so and that I was able to easily operate the video system. Again, they wanted to be sure I had a great flight. My wife got a bit miffed at all the attention I got from the crew.
As we taxied out for takeoff, the Captain mentioned that later on he would welcome visitors to the flight deck. Needless to say, during the flight I took the Captain up on his offer to visit the flight deck. The crew welcomed me up top and showed me the modern flight monitoring gear installed in the 747-400. The crew shared their knowledge of destinations I plan to visit in the future. As we crossed the Pacific Ocean with a ground speed of 700 mph the crew monitored the radios and other instruments pointing out each one and explaining its use.
In addition to a great crew, the aircraft were well maintained. The little things like slippers, shades, etc., were promptly handed to the passengers. This allowed everyone to get comfortable for the very long flight between LAX and Taipei. The flights were on time and the luggage all made it to the proper destination. The aircraft are all relatively new. In fact we were aboard B747 #1,000 as the paint job on the side of the aircraft proclaimed.
The airport crew was kind and helpful at each of our stops. They were orderly in getting the aircraft emptied and filled with folks so we would get on our way. After our stop in Taipei (yes, same place that SIA had their mishap) the aircraft was cleaned well so when we got back on, it was like boarding a completely different flight.
The food was wonderful. It was the best airline food I have ever eaten. We had a choice of numerous meal choices if ordered in advance. We were able to even get our food served a bit early since we were seated so close to the galley.
The next time I head to Southeast Asia, I will definitely try to get on a Singapore Air flight. You will experience superb service and good meals. The seats are comfortable by airline standards. You will likely make it to your destination on time, which means a lot for business travelers.
