by Bryan_Carey Bryan_Carey is a Top Reviewer on Epinions in Personal Finance, Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 10, May 31 '02
Pros: Cash back bonus is ok
Cons: High late fees; High over the limit fees
Credit cards are a necessary evil in many respects. They are needed to check into hotels, to rent cars, and for several other financial transactions. Without a credit card, you would be handicapped in the world of commerce.

But credit cards...

False Information Here..

by noslexa Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, Oct 02 '06
Pros: 4.90 % on balance transfers for 4 years.
Cons: Will tell you anything over the phone just so you'll want the card.
If it sounds too good to be true, 99.9 % of the time it isn’t true. Three weeks ago a male Discover Platinum Card representative called. I usually don’t listen to calls like these. The representative speedily said, “You get 0% ...

Discover the value

by Arthur.Rubin Arthur.Rubin is a Top Reviewer on Epinions in Personal Finance, Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 500, Apr 01 '02
Pros: cashback, good security, good handling of merchant disputes, web site features
Cons: good security, transient late fees
Discover has generally been valuable for me -- but, as in my last credit card review, let me first tell you about my usage of the card. I have a 5-figure credit limit on the card, which I've only pushed once.: I usually use run up about $500-2,000 each...

Undiscovered, Unused...Good for Students, So-So for Adults

by frazzledspice frazzledspice is a Top Reviewer on Epinions in Personal Finance, Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 500, Apr 25 '00
Pros: Student Credit Offer Seems Quite Fair
Cons: Middle-of-the-Road Rewards and Interest Rates
For several years now, my Discover Platinum Card has lain undiscovered in my file cabinet. It's one of those cards that I own but rarely use. My husband's still has an activation sticker on it.

Originally, we applied for our Discover cards...

Pros: Cash back, low interest rate.
Cons: Low credit line even with an increase.
Low crI had been a cardholder with Discover before. I held the Private Issue card and had been happy with it. Then they changed it and I dropped it from my wallet. When my wife suggested we get a Platinum I resisted at first but she wore me down.

Discover Platinum: the Good and the Not So Good

by netKat Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 200, Mar 22 '00
Pros: The Upstart of the Industry, zero liability for online fraud
Cons: Mediocre benefits, poor APR
With its roots in Sears (where America shops) Discover has grown up, moved on, and emerged as a big player in the high stakes game of Credit Cards. Discover is easily holding its own in the not too shabby position of the 4th largest credit card issuer...

Do you take Discover?

by bceaglesfan , Jun 26 '01
Pros: Cash back.
Cons: New math finance charge calculations.
I’ve had a Discover card since 1988. I’ve had good and bad experiences with it.

I like Discover’s Cash Back:

Cash back works like this:
If you spend up to $1000.00, you get ¼ of 1% or a whopping $2.50;

For...

Discovering the Key to Financial Freedom

by cracker24 Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, Jan 03 '04
Pros: excellent customer service, offer small compensation for using their card on purchases, no annual fee
Cons: high interest rates, can't use all of limit for cash advances,
As other people have mentioned, if you consistently carry a balance, then Discover probably is not the card for you. The interest rates are rather high compared to others and it's not accepted everywhere the traditional Visa and Mastercard are. ...

Discover one of the better cards . . .

by tizzo , Jul 26 '02
Pros: Rewards, excellent conflict resolution, special promotions.
Cons: Some customer service issues, not the most widely accepted, rebate rate lower at certain merchants.
Let me start with some background information on how and why I use credit cards. I believe that I am atypical, and therefore some of the information in this review may not be useful to everyone (and more importantly, some information that might be of...

The Lesser Of Three Evils

by tkerodd Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 500, Jan 21 '02
Pros: cash back, nice design on card, life insurance
Cons: not widely accepted
Let me open up with a statement: I don’t like credit cards. I think that they are dangerous to both the user and the economy in general. You see I am old-fashioned in that I do not like to buy things that I don’t have the money for. If I have the...

Get That Cash Back Reward

by doglover , Jun 08 '00
Pros: Cash Back Reward
Cons: High Interest Rate
Many of you people know that I am not a strong advocate of credit cards. I only have two major credit cards, MasterCard and Discover and some miscellaneous department store cards. In fact, I went into a lengthy discussion on what credit cards are good...

Pros: no annual fee, balance transfers, higher credit lines, good customer service, payment options
Cons: not accepted everywhere, but is becoming more and more widely accepted.
I've been a satisfied Discover cardholder since 1995. Just this year, my card was upgraded to a Discover Platinum Card, as was my husband's also. So far, I am greatly impressed by the features offered in the new card.

by nick1326 Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 100, Oct 08 '02
Pros: Very flexible and helpful CS personel, good promotions, reliable credit
Cons: Not the best rates out there, but I pay up front anyway
I've been a Discover Card member for over 8 years at this point. Aside from having extremely helpful and flexible customer service, I've NEVER had any problem with any aspect of this card and thus far, have found the security and service afforded with...

Mediocre awards, terrible rates

by plparsons , Oct 13 '05
Pros: Good starting credit card, great website and service
Cons: So-so reward program, high interest rates, high finance charges
While I was in high school and turned 18 years old, my parents and I decided that it would be good to get a credit card to help myself establish credit and have a good "emergency card" in case of anything that came up. I thought this was a good decision ...

Discover Card - Declined

by vein Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, Mar 13 '01
Pros: mid-range APR, no annual fee
Cons: consistently declined
I will be the first to admit I am quite a bit luckier than most my age. While I've lived on my own since I was 17, my parents have always footed the insurance and drug bill for the no less than three zillion problems I've had over the 5 years...
