All Aboard the American Express Platinum...Next Stop, Poor Policies

by madepublicNew Member , Jan 07 '09
Pros: Effective for fast, secure purchases.
Cons: Card policies could restrict your buying power at any time.
My company owns businesses that operate in different industries.  For our importing and global trade division we frequently use the American Express Platinum to purchase products to supply to individual consumers and retail outlets.  The card ...

Sticking with Gold. What's the point of Platinum?

by alixor , Jul 28 '08
Pros: Airport lounge access.... might get you laid more often.
Cons: Not much else except prestige. Overpriced relative to Gold.
Bottom line - you don't get much more than with the Gold. If you have multiple cards, the extra annual fees start to divide out and it's more reasonable, but for a single card it is way overpriced. I used to have a black card through via my previous ...

The Ultimate Card

by Chewy3 , Sep 11 '07
Pros: Lounge Access, Companion Tickets, Consumer Protections, Gold Card Events, MR points, Hotel benefits
Cons: Annual Fee, Agents sometimes not as knowledgeable as they should be
As someone who has worked in the credit card industry (not for AMEX) I can tell you that despite its hefty $450 annual fee the benefits of the American Express Platinum card are unparalleled. The key is knowing all the benefits that the card ...

Marginally Worthwhile - Some Valuable Perks, Some Worthless

by skriley , May 21 '07
Pros: Airline Club membership, concierge
Cons: Value, decreasing benefits
My wife & I have had platinum cards for a couple for years now and I think the card is marginally worth the fee for us though some of the benefits of the card really are overstated. - Membership Rewards points: I've watched my point balance climb into ...

Amex Platinum: Good only for Amex

by rojersey , May 11 '07
Pros: hmmm. That's a tough question. Let me get back to you!
Cons: Here's a big secret: Amex Customer Service: maria.a.mims@aexp.com
As newbies to the Platinum card we expected lots of things that were promised. We expected a seamless transition from our Gold card for the bills that we were having Amex pay for us. Nonsense! We had to do the legwork ourselves or see utilities ...

Bad Bad Bad Bad Company

by unknown101 , Dec 12 '06
Pros: No Hassle Purchases
Cons: These people have no hart, Brakes their own payment agreements and cares little about clients.
I was an American Express Client for 22 years, without incident, 8 months ago I lost my job, and went back to college and got a part time job until I could get a new full time job, as a result I fell way behind on a couple of my bills, 120 days on my ...

Say No to American Express

by sm00th734 , Oct 12 '06
Pros: Rewards, Able to acquire Saks and Neiman's points
Cons: Random financial reviews which will suspend your account for an undetermined length of time
I started using American Express in January of 2005, so I don't have a lengthy credit history with them. Since then, they had proceeded to upgrade me until I reached Platinum status in March of this year. This took me a little over a year to achieve, ...

I always leave home without it

by v6urak , Jan 07 '06
Pros: Good if you want to feel important
Cons: Benefits that dont work, Poor service and a $400 annual fee.
When I was first offered the Platinum Card for $400 per year, I was very excited. I did not know of anyone who had a Platinum Card so I figured it was a big status symbol. There were so many fantastic benefits that it made my head spin. I tried to ...

worth it if you travel and entertain often...

by andergtr , Aug 02 '05
Pros: platinum concierge, travel benefits
Cons: "no preset spending limit" is misleading
i had the green rewards card for one month before i upgraded to platinum. the $395 fee shocked me at first, but since i do a fair amount of traveling and entertaining, the fee has paid for itself. for example, the starwood perk automatically puts you ...

Known and Unknown Platinum Perks

by poorspeech , Oct 30 '04
Pros: Perks, perks, perks, rewards
Cons: High (!!) annual fee
A lot has been written about the advertised benefits of the American Express Platinum Card, however, I have found some of the unadvertised benefits just as exciting. As a semi-stay-at-home mom, I still get my money's worth from this card. ...

UK Platinum V’s USA Platinum

by millerj76 , Mar 25 '04
Pros: Travel service, Insurance offerings built-in & the concierge
Cons: Not always the best priced fares through the travel service
Well, I have decided to update my personal account of the Amex Platinum card. I have been a member now since 2004. It was originally opened in the United Kingdom, but I have moved to New York now, so the account is not registered in the USA. As such, I ...

Pros: Priority Pass, Hertz discount card, Automatic Hotel upgrades
