In Between Dreams by Jack Johnson: I'm In A Halcyon State Of Mind

by flamepillar Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 50, Jun 13 '05
Pros: Relaxing, mellow, intoxicating, great lyrics, smooth guitar playing.
Cons: May be too mellow for some, much of it tends to sound same-ish.
The great thing about the guitar is that it can be as much of a rhythmic instrument as it can be a melodic one. Throw in a few slaps along with your strums and you practically don't even need a band! The guitar is an instrument with so much to say. ...

Sitting, Waiting, Wishing for Something a Little Different

by DrFaustus DrFaustus is a Lead on Epinions in Music, Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 500, Mar 07 '05
Pros: pleasant, laid-back acoustic pop
Cons: it's the same album that Johnson already released twice in the last few years
Bring up the name Jack Johnson and it's impossible not to find yourself meandering over to the phrase "laid-back." Sure, other artists have taken a relaxed approached to some of their recordings, but no one else has built their entire oeuvre so narrowly ...

Jack Johnson: When The Same Old Same Old Sounds So Good

by speeddemon531 speeddemon531 is a Top Reviewer on Epinions in Music, Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 200, Mar 31 '05
Pros: A long, cool breeze as opposed to a quick blast of wind.
Cons: Mellow doesn't last forever, folks.
Remember those York Peppermint Patty commercials from back in the day? "When I bite into a York Peppermint Patty, I feel like I'm transported back into the ice age, and I'm sledding with dinosaurs!" Or something like that. Jack Johnson is ...

The Gen X answer to Jimmy Buffett

by MattBjorke Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 500, Mar 01 '05
Pros: Sunny Sweet Melodies
Cons: None.
The year was 2001 and coming across the alternative and Triple A radio airwaves was an acoustic track with heavy bass and a melody that pervaded the listener's mind so much that you couldn't get the song out of your head. Jack Johnson was the ...

It's A Crying Shame That I Wasn't A Fan Of Jack Johnson Before...

by donkee donkee is a Top Reviewer on Epinions in Music, , Aug 14 '07
Pros: Wonderful songs, Johnson's vocals, well-written lyrics...
Cons: ...a few filler tracks, may be too mellow for some
Jack Johnson's name has often come up in conversations about music among my friends and me. I had never heard any of his music in the past, and my friends would often tell me, knowing my music taste (namely my love for artists like John ...

Status Quo

by hstisgod , May 04 '05
Pros: More upbeat than ever before...
Cons: Simple chords... nothing's perfect.
Most of my reviews begin with a catchy cliché, but it seems Jack Johnson’s “In Between Dreams” is chalk full of such literacy. So why bother… Since the release of J.J.’s billboard invasion, ...

3-minute Summer breeze

by silktempest Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, Aug 13 '06
Pros: Solid to boot, many highs
Cons: You can still want someone less repetitive and tamed...
While the contenders on JACK JOHNSON's niche - Folk singer-songwriter - get increasingly intrincate and "sophisticated" as the years go by, the Hawaiian citizen is content to rest on his simple laurels. Unadorned acoustic melodies of his ...

Jack Johnson's (almost) second classic

by title3jimi , Feb 15 '06
Pros: Quite a few amazing tracks, very emotional, incredible songwriting, incredible lyrics
Cons: Two weaker tracks...
You may blame Jack Johnson for making the same sounding music for 3 albums, but aren't we losing sight of what being a musician is all about? Making great music? Well, that's exactly what he does here. If Johnson doesn't expirement musically it's okay ...

Permanently In Between My Ears

by shaky_jake , Jul 28 '05
Pros: Smooth vocals, catchy songs, relaxing melodies
Cons: Not much change in tone
Everybody has those days in their life when they don't want to do much of anything. Maybe you've had a bad week, or things just haven't gone the way that you'd like them to. Whatever the case may be, it just seems like a good day to do nothing. And ...

Ah.... Mellow....

by zarathustra18 , Nov 01 '07
Pros: Soothing, relaxing, complete album.
Cons: I have to be in the mood, could be different for you.
Honestly, I wish that I could give you all this background about Jack Johnson and his discography, but I have no idea. All I have heard about Jack is that he is an amazing surfer. This is the only CD of his that I own, so I guess all I can do is tell ...

What You've Come To Expect

by johnnywas , Feb 23 '06
Pros: Great beach music for the mellow one who likes introspective lyrics
Cons: Lots of the same thing, over and over
If you like Jack Johnson and his cool, calm vibe, you'll like this album. Music perfect for sitting on a beach chair and watching the waves crash in. Unfortunately, he's released three studio albums and several soundtracks now, and he's failed to come ...

HE JUST KEEPS GETTING BETTER
by sheenakng ,Aug 16 '08
Pros: Any mood that your in, you can listen to Jack Johnson
Cons: This is not a product for the heavy rockers.
Jack Johnson is only getting better with the release of his 5th main stream album. The first song on the album Better Together just sets the smooth and mellow tone for the entire CD. And his track Never Know is the greatest by far on the record. It proves the diversity of Jack. If you dont get the whole CD at least download that single. Each song is unique from each other so your not getting the same melody threw out the whole CD. And If you love guitar this is a great album. You can tell that Jack has a little surfer, Hawaii, California vibe going on in his soul. I would recommand that you pick up this album if you like John Mayer, Dave Matthews band, or Matchbox 20.
