Pros: DVD-R/RW which is most compatable
Easy-to-use
Great recording quality Cons: None for those needing something basic
I spent months looking for the perfect DVD-R. I needed to transfer shows off of my Tivo onto a disc so that I could view or share them with friends. I also needed a device that I could simply dump my camcorder footage to. I needed something ...

Samsung R130 is superior DVD Recorder
by making7 ,Dec 17 '06
Pros: Compatibility, ease of use, owners manual, quick start recording. Cons: Editing and labeling titles and discs is difficult. Buttons on remote too close together.
This is my forth DVD recorder, and easily the best. The manual is an outstanding guide. Samsung put real effort into the owners manual and it pays into a pleasant experience in learning and using the R130.
This recorder makes DVDs that are playable on my other DVD players. I've had it for 4 intense weeks, and it has not given me any problems. My only complaint is that the buttons on the remote are too close together and not well planned for the shape of the hand.
Everything works. The menu is not made until you finalize the disc, and you cannot change the thumbnail title picture. Labeling the title is very sluggish. Oops. That's another complaint. Color and fidelity on both recording and playback seem to be topnotch. Recording starts almost instantly.
The outputs on the back panel are also very tightly spaced, at least for my fingers.

Compatible with other players...after you Finalize the Disc
by vancouverrob ,Sep 17 '06
Pros: Easy to use.
Slim design. Cons: Remote...so so.
Manual...so so.
Just picked this up last night. So far so good...but almost returned it (Best Buy Canada $159.00 Cdn), when I re-read (duh) about finalizing your disc to be compatible with other DVD players.
Then it worked in my Mac, a PC, and another DVD player.
So compatibility wise, that's great if I can get to it with my Mac.
Nice and tiny footprint, so easy to move around from going from upstairs to downstairs.
DVD-R Fujifilm works fine. Haven't tried others yet, but it came with 4 Maxell -R's.

Don't buy Samsung
by kwandlw ,Dec 29 '07
Pros: None Cons: Everything
This unit is a piece of garbage as is the DVD-R160. Samsung customer service is absolutely worthless. I originally purchased this unit in Feb 07. It worked for about two months before it would not read any disks. I sent it in for service within the 90 day window - they could not fix it and sent me a new unit after waiting four months. The DVD-R160 then worked for about two months as well; same problem! It would not initialize new disks nor read standard DVDs. I didn't get a chance to call before the 90 days expired. Of course, customer service would not budge and would not waive the $65 labor charge to look at the unit. After countless calls and elevation to executive customer service, I have given up.
Do not waste your money on a Samsung product - they may be good in other product lines, but the customer service is nothing to other manufactuers. Be wise, go elsewhere...

Incompatible Discs
by egale ,Jul 11 '06
Pros: Great output when played back on itself. Cons: Discs won't play anywhere else.
This is a basic unit with great picture quality as long as you play the discs on this unit. Don't even try using them anywhere else. They won't play on my Sony DVD player, my desktop (two different drives, two different software packages) and my laptop.
I tried different brands of discs and made many different disks. All are no good!!
This unit is cheap and great only if you play your disks on the R130.
