Nice complete unit for single DIN units
by dunnsmere ,Dec 31 '04
Pros: Easy installation, solid tuning and playback, great sound Cons: No clock, minimal manual and instructions
I have purchased two of these stereos for my older single DIN cars. I wanted both CD and Cassette capability. The stereo is easy to install, especially if you purchase the car specific installation kit and wiring harnesses. Sound quality is very good. The CD player doesn't skip even in my Jeep Cherokee when off-roading. the cassette player performs nicely as well. It would be nice to include a clock function. This unit is a great value for the money.

Good value for the money

Pros: Good layout, good mechanisms Cons: Volume levels need adjusting between functions
I purchased the PLCDCS90 because I wanted a cassette/CD combination, and didn't want to spend more than $150.
The unit I got was a factory reconditioned unit off EBAY.
I was pleasantly suprised by the fresh factory packaging and brand-new condition of the unit and wiring. It bench tested good, so I installed it.
The tuner reception is excellent. The CD is rock steady, with no skip even on fairly rough roads. My Toyota has very stiff struts, so If it was going to skip, it certainly would. The cassette deck has excellent specs, as does the cd player and tuner, and the disc load/eject and full logic cassette system work very smooth.
One issue: the CD/cassette/tuner have different preamp levels, so in changing from tuner to cassette or CD, the volume requires adjusting. Would be nice if the different system volume levels were memorized.
The full night illumination is soft and it's fairly easy to operate at night, once you get used to the multi-function buttons.
All in all, a good unit.
