Audi A3 225/45R17 DO NOT USE IN SNOW! by wglx ,Dec 06 '05
Pros: Nice looking and great dry handling. Cons: Not a true "All season". Will not work in snow.
These came with the car when bought new in July 2005. At first wet and dry handling was superior to any other tire I've used, but after only 8000 miles the tread had worn to the point that wet traction was poor. Tires spin too easily on takeoff. I got the tires siped for winter to try and increase takeoff traction and no luck. On 1/2 inch of pack snow the car would not move the tires spin and the traction control in the car keeps trying to activate, but the car wouldn't go up my slightly sloping driveway. I don't see how Pirelli can classify these as all season. They are in no way capable of snow travel. Bad choice by Audi!!!! I will not replace with these tires or any other Pirelli tire.
Pros: noise and wet handling relative other max performance tires Cons: none, other than it is a max performance tire
I have had these on my 01 530 sport for most of the season. Much quieter, better dry handling and much better wet handling then the stock conticontacts (1 not 2). Also, much less tram lining (or what ever it is called) Wear seems ok but hard to tell.
