Pros: Size, versatility, extreme condition proof Cons: picture quality, menu and features, Xd card, charger
I bought this camera mainly because of its waterproof, shock proof, temp proof quality. I also thought it would do fine in picture quality. I needed something that I could take anywhere, really anywhere, and give to my kids, without ...
Pros: shock proof, waterproof, freeze proof, dust and sand proof. Cons: Picture quality!, proprietary xD memory cards, subpar battery life.
I purchased the Olympus Stylus 790 SW Digital Camera to take on my mountaineering trips because I was tired of lugging my big and heavy Nikon SLR worrying about whether or not it would be damaged by moisture, cold, dropping, or being crushed in the ...
Pros: ruggedness, style of case ,color choice, and digital menus Cons: image quality, XD cards, BATTERY LIFE
I got this camera to replace a previous all-weather Olympus I had. I travel 'far away' both for work and fun and I have some mil-spec gear. Waterproof has been great for snow shots although lately I am more often in sandy/dusty places. That said my ...
Pros: Compact, easy to use, waterproof Cons: None other than a cheap wrist strap.
My Olympus Stylus 790SW digital camera had to be sent back to Olympus after its first use this year. The darn thing turned on, but all operations were frozen. Olympus fixed the camera, but to my dismay never indicated what the original problem was. I ...
Pros: Shockproof, Waterproof, Freeze-proof, Dust-proof, Image stabilization Cons: None from this amateur
I love this camera and would recommend it to any amateur photographer looking for a more rugged or outdoor camera. I loved the fact that it was shockproof. That is something that drew me to this particular camera in the first place. I have a tendency to ...
Pros: Ease of use, worry free exposure to all environments, beautiful pics Cons: Sand proof, drop proof, water proof but still can be lost.
This camera was pretty amazing. I bought it in preparation for a vacation which included snorkeling a coral reef and subject to general abuse expected during other sporting activities. The camera was simple to set up. We bought a 1 Gig xD card for ...

okay shots on 'auto' outdoors, but set your ISO indoors by rdeschene ,Feb 09 '08
Pros: - waterproof/shockproof design
- automatic lens cover
- fairly compact Cons: white balance poor, especially indoors
grainy at higher ISO
expensive for the picture quality
Have had this camera for a few weeks and taken indoor pictures, and some outdoor winter pictures. Wanted ONE camera that was rugged enough for outdoors but also for indoor portraits for newsletters and glossy mags.
Indoors, you're best to set its ISO manually to 400 or less otherwise shots will look grainy and/or washed out. Outdoors in the winter, the auto setting does an okay job from what I've seen so far. Color accuracy is okay but not great. As a digital camera it is just adequate, but at least as good as any other "rugged" digital camera I've seen.
There's no reason a rugged design can't produce better image quality than this.
If you are an outside active person... by leahc77 ,Jan 21 '08
Pros: It can withstand abuse and work like a charm Cons: picture quality is not perfect
I couldn't find many customers reviews on this digital, before I bought one so I'm writing this.
This is a tough... excellent little camera! I have taken this camera out in minus 15, snorkeled in the ocean, basically beat it up and it stands true to its marketing either dusty, dirty, wet or dropped it works fine.
If your a photo quality techie, get something else...the pictures come out clear in my opinion.
I love this camera. I have used it kayaking and in the pool to take movies and awesome pictures. I have taken it snow skiing in some very cold conditions, and has worked without fail. The only problem I am having is getting it from my Wife.
This is a great camera, we got it to take to the beach and it does a great job. Sand gets on the camera and we just wash it off when we get home, and no problems. The manufacturer says to wash it off and we did, a little scary, but like I said no problems. The screen is also very big and you can see all the pictures in great detail. The video camera mode is surprisingly very handy; we have used it many times. The videos were easy to post and great to show the family. Easy on and off and great location for the zoom.
Would return mine if I could by bmsc20 ,Apr 19 '08
Pros: Small and lightweight Cons: Leaks, ok picture quality
I would definitely not recommend this camera for anyone buying it for the waterproof feature. I have a great Canon camera that takes excellent pictures but bought this camera to take underwater photos and for use when kyaking, boating, etc. I used it once under only a few feet of water and after having dried if off I found water in both the battery/memory card and USB port compartments. I have now returned the camera to Olympus 3 separate times(twice at my cost) only to have them tell me there is nothing wrong with the camera. Of course it still leaks when I place it underwater in a sink. Once they actually replaced the entire camera but that one leaked too. So since I can't take it to any local repair place to show them the water damage I'm stuck with a leaky camera. Customer service at Olympus suggested I send the camera back yet again but since they insist there is nothing wrong with the one I have I think it's rather pointless. I guess I'm just stuck with it.
Pros: Average compact camera for general use. Cons: Do not use in salt water.
This camera, though advertised as waterproof, did not make through my first attempt at snorkeling with it. It seemed to function OK when just exposed to water from the rain or in a splash while riding in a canal in a inner tube. But after only 10 min in salt water, it failed. It seemed like a relatively easy camera to operate, but seeing the view screen in the day light was very difficult. As to image quality, I can not judge it detail, as I lost all the images on the xd card in the camera at the time I went snorkeling.
To give Olympus credit, they were cordial over the phone, and did replace the camera promptly. I have not had the opportunity to do further testing, and probably will not....as I wanted to the waterproof quality....I will probably pass it on to some one else.
Over all, probably an OK camera, just not as waterproof as they advertise.
Pros: small, tough, many many features & WASHABLE!! Cons: Can't find any!!
If you are looking for a small, tough, feature filled camera, this is the one for you! Since it is waterproof to 10 feet, it is washable! Ever bring your camera to the beach only for it to be ruined by a grain of sand??? or God forbid you DROP it in the sand?? No worries with this baby! Submerge it in water, power on & off a few times.... CLEAN!! Many more features!!! Records audio with your videos and even has a feature to record audio with a picture. Pictures are beautiful. I love this little camera. If you're not sure, get it! You won't be dissappointed.
