Pros: Incredible off the line and cornering grip. Amazing Tread life ... over 30K miles! Cons: A little less than ideal wet weather traction and sound levels
July 2006 Update: I've had these tires on my car for over two years, and over 30,000 miles. This is at least 50% better tread life than I experienced with either the stock Eagles or the Kumho Ecsta Supra 712's. I need to replace two of the tires in ...
Pros: Fat rim protector, 300 treadwear rating, good performance, lower price than others. Cons: none yet.
These are some shnazzy lookin wheels with great performance, an aggressive tread pattern, and the fattest rim protector I've ever seen! I purchased my Nitto 555 tires to fit my staggered 19" Hartge Classic rims for use on my BMW 740iL. They are the ...
After EXTENSIVELY searching for a 245/45/17 performance tire for a 1997 Mustang, I finally settled on the Nitto NT 555 Extremes.
I have heard many mixed reviews about these tires, but I really don't understand the negative comments said about...
Pros: A great handling tire at a more than affordable price, worth every peeny i paid. Cons: No problems at all
Where do i begin??? Well let's start with the incredible handling around any turn, these tires transformed my 98 Dodge Dakota into a road hugging sports car. I honestly took a 35mph turn after a bridge at 75mpg with these tires equipped and not only was...
great peformance. great tire by jerggy13 ,Feb 25 '04
Pros: great tires, dry and wet handling. smooth and quiet Cons: none as of yet
I had bridgestone potenza RE040 245/40/18 runflats on my 1997 mitsubishi 3000GT SL. The car is lowered with ground control adjustable coilovers, adjustable camber arms, and front and rear strut tower braces. And it rode like crap. The ride was smooth as silk on nice highways but around town and through downtown STL it competely sucked. And I also managed to bend two of my 18x9 moda R6 rims while running these tires. I swapped tires after slidding my car off a highway exit ramp this winter while going 5 mph during a snow storm. I ordered the Nittos the next day.
All i can say is WOW, what a difference. The car rides smooth around town and is amazing on the highways. I used problems with the car pulling all over the road when the surface was uneven from ruts created by semi trucks and etc. Now I can drive the car with 2 fingers on the worst of roads. Handling is great on dry and wet roads and road noise has gone way down.
Pros: actually had them in a 295/45zr18 size. Cons: wish i bought in my past life as well!
for a ford f150 lightning, in order to retain the stock tire dimensions, you've only got two tire options. the goodyear eagle f1 gs or the nitto nt 555. i've tried both and the nitto's beat them out completely. it has better wet traction, more resistant to road debris injury, a little cheaper, and the tires sidewall runs flush with the outer lip of the rim for more rim protection. i am now a loyal triple five buyer.
Excellent tire as long as youre going straight. by royalty0069 ,May 07 '04
Pros: They look good, ride good and are wonderful for long drives. No noise whatsoever. Cons: For the love of God after one year dont turn like they are new.
I had my 555's for exactly 1 year. I'll give them all the credit on straight aways and light curves. Even good at high speed turns. Only thing is that this fabulous handling wears off after about 1 year.
I was cruising along made a turn and the backend of my car came around and threw me into a backward spin. I totalled 2 cars (including mine) and wrecked one.
Also one of the tires had the strange habit of always loosing air. I had it checked and they found no leaks. So i kept filling it up, but the strange thing about it was that it was only one tire and it did this every few weeks. Then all of a sudden...It stopped. (it was the same tire that my car spun around on)
My friend had some 555's and one of his also did the strange leaking air trick.
Pros: Didn't waste my money on them, they were on the car when i bought it. Cons: horrible in mild snow and rain, hydroplaning, feel about to brake loose around turns.
I bought my 1995 Mistubishi 3000GT VR-4 (AWD) with Nitto 555's on it with only about 1k miles on the tires. Since then, I've driven the car approximately 18,000 miles. I've hydroplaned NUMEROUS times at speeds around 30-40mph, in mild-heavy rain, lost traction around a not-so-sharp turn going about 40 mph (speed limit was 55, suggested speed around the turn was 45) and skidded off the road, almost going head on into an on-coming car, barely missing a telephone pole and a street sign. Thankfully, my car only came out with a 1/4" scratch the width of a hair. I've lost traction on damp roads pulling a U-turn at 5 mph. and recently, I slid off the road into a curb at 3-5mph in mild snow, destroying one of my rims. I've heard good things about these tires from a number of people that have the same car as me who have used these tires in the past, but, personally, I would not recommend these tires to anyone. Unless you only drive on long, straight, dry roads, I HIGHLY suggest finding a different tire.

Pros: Straight line performance, cornering in the first 7,000-10,000 miles and of course price. Cons: Little noisy on concrete freeways, loses traction in wet weather after about 7,000-10,000 miles
I have driven on two sets of these tires. I live in Arizona where it is always hot and hardly ever rains. I couldn't ask for a better tire. I would choose these tires over bfg or continental any day. Yes they do not last forever but when you need to replace them it is a lot less expensive then if you bought BFG or Continental. These tires have great straight line performance, they do lose there grip after about 10,000 miles but what tires don't except for the Pilot Sport A/S. The best performance tire on the market is the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S, so if you want the best tire for the most expensive price than that is your tire. Otherwise stick with the Nitto NT555, overall it has the best characteristics of any tire in the price range. Please don't compare apples to oranges.
NOT a high performance tire by turboed240 ,Mar 22 '04
Pros: OK tread wear, wet traction wasn't too bad either. Cons: Not at all a performance tire, rock hard and very unpredictable.
These things are a joke. They DO always feel like they are going break loose going around corners at high speeds and are by no means a actual performance tire. The only reason I bough them is for the tread wear thinking they would be aggressive enough but still have some life on them. They may work well on a BMW station wagon....... But theres no way you can trust these tires at 100+ mph without worrying if they are going to stay stuck to the ground or not. They would last about 2 seasons for me but I only drive my car 7 months out of the year at most.
Pros: Good looking. Cons: Short life low performance
I replaced original equipment BFG Comp TA's on my '99 Cobra. I was disappointed with the grip. Even when amply warmed up these tires don't come close to the old Comp TA's.
I was looking mostly at the wear rating thinking I'd get a longer tread life... These tires are gone after only 16K miles...
Good Performer for the money. by carstereopro ,Feb 19 '04
Pros: Dry traction, Price, "curb guard", softer ride than the competition. Cons: Moderate wear for the price.
I've owned three sets of these tires on two different BMW's, a 5 series wagon (235-40-18 front, 265-35-18 rear) and now a 318ti (225-40-18 all around). Great dry traction, good wet traction, good wear. An excellent performer for the money, especially for a rear-wheel drive car. This tire was not designed to run in the snow, so do not take comments seriously by people who drive this "ultra-high performance" tire in the snow. That is why tire manufacturers make snow/all season tires.
overall, I would highly recommend to any serious driver.
In addition, has a great "curb sheild" to protect your wheels, and a softer sidewall than most tires in this class tends to give a slightly softer ride, (as compared to the Toyo T1-S & Kumho 712c's I've run previously).
Pros: hooks well on the street Cons: treadwear life expectency 15,000 miles
i wanna encourage people to buy this tire if you own a high horsepower car for the street this tire hooks very well also does good in the rain, unlike what i hear about the bf good rich drag radial i have a c5 corvette & installed heads, gears,headers,3200stall yank converter & i consistently pull 1.70 1.80 60fts @ the drag strip i wont ever buy nothing but nittos from now on for my rear tires
