Rarely do we rent cars when we travel, but when the need comes for a car at another destination, or home, we use Enterprise Rent-A-Car, and have been pleased with the service we received. In a nutshell, "I like being picked-up!"
Our most recent experience with this company was just two weeks ago, while visiting Montana on a house hunting trip. I originally decided to make the reservation on-line, but their web site didn't seem to be too user friendly, and the rates that were quoted were high. I called their 800 number, and was put directly through to the Enterprise office in Kalispell, Montana. I explained that we wanted a full size, but not luxury car, and since they didn't carry any foreign vehicles, we would take whatever they carried in that category. The gentleman was polite, quoted me an excellent weekly rate of $199 with 1000 free miles, and I made the reservation for two weeks.
We arrived so late at night we went direct to our condo, and called Enterprise the next morning. They picked my husband up, and within 45 minutes he was back with a decent Pontiac. After we drove the car that day, it seemed to have a strange noise in the left front wheel, so we took it back and ended up with a Ford Taurus. Neither were exciting cars, but we were just looking for transportation. They replaced the car quickly and with no question, and we were off in the serious house hunting mode.
I had made our reservation for a two week rental, however, we were able to take care of business and leave early. There was no hesitation on their part in returning the car, and they made a very fair pro-ration of the charges. They then took us to the airport, and we were on our way home.
We have used Enterprise four times. The first was when our daughter's car was totaled by a motorhome. Enterprise brought, and then picked up the car several weeks later with nary a complaint. We live 45 minutes from their nearest location. Each of our experiences have been excellent. No, the cars are not terribly exciting, but they are clean and reliable.
Most rental car companies offer the same basic variety of vehicles, but the convenience of delivery, and reasonable rates make us their customer!
Give them a try the next time you rent!
UPDATE: October 21,2000
Enterprise has dropped a notch off my list because last evening at 8 pm, some person from Enterprise called, to see if we were happy with our rental experience. I quickly told her, our phone number was unlisted, it was 8pm, and I didn't appreciate being bothered at home. If there were a problem they would have heard from me. Just a bit of information, if you hate those evening phone calls tell them not to call you when you rent the car, or better still don't give them your phone number.
