bigskeptic's Full Review: Graco: Folding Potty Seat
Like a genius, I decided to potty train my almost-three son the week before we went on vacation. You see, that was the week I stopped working to stay home with my kids full-time. This week now lives in our family annals known forever as Hell Week.
There was a day during that week I needed some last minute items for our trip. A portable, folding potty seat was one of them. First of all, finding this thing was a bit of challenge. Target and Wal-Mart, in my area, didnt carry them. I finally found it at Toys R Us for $8.99.
What you get
As listed on the Graco website, the Traveling Potty Seat 800 features:
* Seat fits all standard toilet seats Ill take their word on this. Im not sure what the standard for toilet seats are. But public restrooms must not use them.
* Compact fold fits into diaper bag Yes. This was great.
* Soft rubber pads for stability and grip Yes, it didnt move around much.
Not much to it pretty basic concept. Also, the plastic material seems super easy to clean. Since we never actually used the potty seat, I cant say for sure. Read on
How it works; or doesnt
Unfold the seat and set it on top of the toilet seat. Sounds simple enough. When we tried it on the toilet at home it looked ok. It didnt fit as nicely as Id expected, though.
But on commercial, oblong toilets the Graco Folding Potty Seat doesnt cover well at all. It fits on the sides, but is too short front-to-back to cover the toilet seat. If we put the folding seat on the front half of the toilet, it put my son to far forward. He would have over-shot the bowl. The back half of the public toilets we visited have a slight curve. I guess this encourages you to sit properly? Anyway, the Graco Folding Potty Seat couldnt sit on the back half of these toilets.
Worth the money?
Definite NO in our opinion. Sure it folded up nice and small. In fact, it actually fit into my over-sized purse. And I liked the sanitary bag it came with (a large Ziploc). But it just did not work for us. As soon as we returned home I turned it in for some Geoffrey Dollars.
